Vacuum Insulating Glass for Heavy Equipment & Off-Highway Vehicles
Passive thermal insulation, condensation elimination, and acoustic attenuation for excavator, crane, loader, and agricultural equipment cabs — rated for −40 °C to +85 °C operating range.
Heavy Equipment Glazing
Extreme Environments. Passive Performance.
Heavy equipment and off-highway vehicle cabs face some of the most demanding glazing conditions of any application: temperature differentials from −40 °C to +85 °C, high ambient humidity, continuous vibration, and structural load requirements governed by ROPS/FOPS cab standards (ISO 3471 / ISO 3449). Glass must perform passively — without relying on active heating or defogging systems that draw from the machine's electrical budget.
THERMGLASS Warm-Edge Vacuum Insulating Glass (VIG) delivers wall-like conductive insulation in a slim, lightweight profile. Paired with a low-e coating or tinted substrate for solar control, it addresses both the conductive and radiative components of cab heat load — reducing HVAC demand, eliminating perimeter condensation, and improving operator comfort without adding structural weight.
Applications
Where THERMGLASS VIG Performs
Excavators, Cranes & Loaders
High-cycle cab glazing for earthmoving and lifting equipment operating in extreme heat, cold, and high-humidity environments. THERMGLASS VIG eliminates condensation passively and reduces cab HVAC load without adding weight to the cab assembly.
Agricultural & Forestry Equipment
Year-round operation across wide temperature ranges — from sub-zero winter harvesting to high-solar summer field work. Slim VIG profiles fit existing cab frame systems, delivering passive thermal performance without equipment redesign.
Mining & Quarrying Equipment
Haul trucks, drill rigs, and underground loaders operating in extreme dust, heat, and humidity. THERMGLASS VIG reduces HVAC load and eliminates condensation in enclosed cab environments where operator visibility is safety-critical.
Off-Highway & Specialty Vehicles
Airport ground support equipment, port machinery, and industrial vehicles with enclosed operator cabs. VIG's slim profile and passive performance suit retrofit and OEM new-build applications across a wide range of cab frame geometries.
Key Benefits
Performance That Matters to OEMs
Conductive Insulation — COG U-Value 0.46 W/m²K
VIG eliminates the conductive heat loss component through the glass. Paired with a low-e coating or tinted substrate for solar gain control, it addresses the full cab heat load — reducing HVAC demand and extending equipment runtime per fuel cycle.
Zero Condensation, No Heated Glass
True warm-edge seal maintains the inner glass surface above the dew point in high-humidity environments — eliminating perimeter condensation without active defogging power draw. Rated for −40 °C to +85 °C operating range.
STC 35–45 Acoustic Attenuation
Significant noise reduction for operator comfort in high-noise construction environments. Supports occupational health and safety acoustic targets without adding a separate acoustic interlayer in most configurations.
Up to 50% Lighter Than 24 mm Triple-Pane
Dramatically reduced glass weight lowers cab structural load and simplifies installation — critical for mobile equipment where weight distribution and ROPS/FOPS cab integrity matter.
Standards & Compliance
What OEMs Ask First
Safety glazing certification, ROPS/FOPS cab compatibility, operating temperature range, and vibration durability are the first questions any equipment OEM will raise. Here is how THERMGLASS VIG addresses each.
Safety Glazing
THERMGLASS VIG is produced from tempered or laminated safety glass substrates. Configurations can be specified to meet ANSI Z26.1 (North America) or ECE R43 (international) safety glazing requirements for operator cab applications. Substrate selection and lamination options are confirmed at the specification stage.
ROPS/FOPS Cab Glazing
Glazing installed in ROPS (Roll-Over Protective Structure) and FOPS (Falling Object Protective Structure) cabs must not compromise the structural integrity of the cab assembly. THERMGLASS VIG panels are specified with cab OEMs to confirm compatibility with cab frame load paths and glazing retention systems. Structural certification remains the cab OEM's responsibility.
Operating Temperature Range
THERMGLASS VIG is rated for continuous operation across a −40 °C to +85 °C ambient temperature range. The vacuum cavity and warm-edge seal system are designed to maintain performance across this range without seal degradation or vacuum loss under normal operating conditions.
Durability in High-Vibration Environments
VIG panels for mobile equipment applications are specified with edge seal and frame retention systems designed for continuous vibration exposure. Application-specific vibration and shock profiles should be confirmed with THERMGLASS engineering at the specification stage to select the appropriate edge detail and glazing compound.
